January is a month of change. The first of the year when all of our goals and resolutions either flourish into a healthy routine, or come to a screeching halt after week two. Every year we think of what we are lacking in our lives, enabling us with the capacity to set an objective of what needs to be resolved in the next. The truth however, is that only 8% of the western world's population ever accomplishes their New Year resolution. 

Why then, is this trend so negative and counter-productive toward accomplishing positive change in our lives? Shouldn't positive outlook on goals be a healthy step forward? Must it be so hard to stick to our New Year resolutions? Our subconscious can drive our emotional state to that of either enthusiasm or disbelief.

Empowerment is a clever game of changing one's perception. With an ever-growing tendency for self-doubt surrounding our capacity to achieve greatness, no wonder we continue to fail at achieving our goals. In order to break the trend of setting failed objectives, we need to look toward a new strategy. A strategy that will enable our minds to respond rather than control the uncontrollable. Once we are aware of what variables can be influenced toward achieving a positive outcome, then we will be in a place to achieve not only the new years six pack but other greater areas of interest too! 1. Understand the way your brain works

The brain operates highly on Gamma wave activity during the initial wake cycle. As we become more awake, our concentration and focus on the environment shifts to a Beta wave alertness. On the other hand during sleep, our brain wave activity is in a heightened state of Theta wave activity. During the first thirty minutes of being awake, try and influence change in your mind with positive reinforcement. It's during this period of time that your mind is in transition from a more calm Theta state to a heighten Beta state of awareness. This influence has the ability to shift your focus toward believing in a potential you may have lost faith in. When you next wake up, instead of focusing on the stiff rigidity of your body, put your headphones in and listen a to an empowering podcast that will promote positive feelings of potential and change.

2. Prep your subconscious before bed

During sleep, our subconscious is in a state of Theta wave dominance. This makes us highly reflective on the thoughts and feelings we had of ourselves during the course of the day. To set a more productive and positive influence to your mind, end your day with an acknowledgement of what you were able to accomplish, not what you failed to deliver. Reading a book that influences your state of mind to a positive subjective state rather than judgemental objective reasoning may help to redirect your focus toward what you are capable of doing.

3. Stop. Breathe. Reflect 

Often we are caught up in a To Do List that is never-ending and extensively exhausting. Life has only one finish line and it's not one that any of us should sprint toward. Stepping out of the stress of your career, life, social circle and into a sanctuary of quiet calm can truly give you the energy and change of perspective you need. Take a break, take a breath and forget the list of unresponsible responsibilities that only weigh you down with negativity. Reflect on what really matters to you, that way you can truly understand which goals are necessary and which are superficial. inturn, this helps improve your self-confidence long-term.

All it takes is positive reinforcement of what we are capable of doing to set the motion toward greater change and accomplishment. This year has already begun with a new set of seasons and unexpected events we have not yet come to experience. Why focus on what you have not been able to do to try creating something you want to do? Shift your focus to what you have done previously and in doing so, identity what you know about yourself. Let the next few days create a greater awareness of the beauty that is your existence and the potential you have always had within. You got this!
