Energy work is all the rage. Whether you use a meditation or happiness app, crystals or have your own personal healer, energy work surely can't be ignored when it comes to getting in tune with mindfulness – and Theta Healing is one to take note. It's a meditative technique based on the fact that emotions and beliefs affect us on a core, genetic, history, and soul level. It's conducted while in a theta brainwave state – an altered consciousness where brainwaves are slowed to a relaxed mode.
Let's start with a little background. I have always been an avid explorer, discoverer, teacher and student of energy work. The first time I came across Theta Healing was through a conversation I had with someone I was interviewing for a book I was writing. I had met this person in the past and she was focused, gruff, direct and unsmiling. Here was someone who got the job done exceptionally well, but did not include any sort of fun and joy in the process.
Then on another occasion of meeting her, everything about her energy had changed. She was lighter, more joyous, joking, animated and warm. Curiously, I wanted to know what had changed. She proceeded to describe to me her experience with Theta Healing. Through it, she was able to release a lot of her past hurts and pains. Releasing disempowering patterns allowed her to clear the way to what she could experience in her present and empowered the kind of energy she used to create her future. Naturally, I wanted to know more! So after leaving her I immediately started researching, found a teacher and booked on to the course for the beginners and advanced DNA.
These initial workshops felt as if I were going to school at Hogwart's à la Harry Potter. There was a distinct feeling that I’d left reality as I knew it outside the door and entered into a place where anything was possible. This was most certainly a dive into Human Magic. In the days spent coming to the course I got to explore the art of healing, the art of intuitive guidance, the art of dissolving time and space, the art of recreating the past and co-creating the future. I was in my glory. Here's some information to get you informed on how to do Theta Healing on yourself and start your journey
What is theta healing therapy?
The founder of Theta Healing Vianna Stibal, is someone who has been in the arena of healing, energy work and offering intuitive readings for a number of years. She has brought together the components of a number of different disciplines under one umbrella.
What is theta healing technique?
1. Theta Brain Waves
The measurements of our brain activity is given to us in four main brain waves. Beta Wave is when our minds are on conscious alert and our energy levels are high, it could be that we are feeling anxiety or otherwise paying special attention to something. Alpha Wave is when we are aware of our surroundings but we are relaxed and at ease. Delta Wave is when we are in a deep sleep and all forms or consciousness are switched off. Theta Wave is when the conscious mind is relaxed enough so it gets out of the way and you have direct access to your subconscious. The Theta Wave is the brain activity that is accessed and used in Theta Healing.
A guided Theta Healing meditation practice is used to take people out of their conscious day to day lives and into a place of connecting to a sense of expansiveness, oneness and interconnectedness – helping to nurture self-love. You are guided through this meditation into a destination filled with light and you’re invited to dissolve all barriers so that you experience oneness with this light. Perceptually you get a sense of expanded thinking, a connection to yourself as a universal being and a connection to yourself as a co-creator.
3. Digging / CBT
Once you are in a conscious, expansive, relaxed state, a bit like the space between sleep and wake, a process of digging occurs. This is the equivalent of communicating with the subconscious mind to figure out where your fears lie, where your dreams lie, where you may have mental blocks, where these blocks where created and what needs to be reframed. Often you are taken either to the extremes of a best case scenario or a worst case scenario. So for example if I was anxious about failing in business, the actual fearful feelings could be based in being on the streets, having no resources or being alone. These fears are weeded out and reframed. On the other hand we could look at the most extreme source of success and this may bring feelings of overwhelm, feeling stretched to breaking point and feeling exhausted. Again, the fears around this are brought to the surface to be reframed.
Muscle testing is used to bypass the conscious mind and really get to the heart of what you feel. You’re invited to repeat certain disempowering or empowering statements and use the strength of your body’s reaction to determine what the answer is. So if I were to be asked, ‘Do you fear being successful?’, I might immediately respond, ‘Of course not!’. My ego and conscious mind might find the idea of that ridiculous, but using muscle testing I might find that my body’s response to the statement, ‘I’m opened to being a raving success!’ is really weak.
5. Energy work
Theta Healing benefits are enormous. You are encouraged to be aware of the fact that time and space are mental rather than actual constructs, so the past can be healed in the present, the future may have been created in the past, and you may be presently so engaged with your future that you have no energy for your here and now. An emphasis is placed on pulling your energy into present time.
6. A belief in God / Creator / Life force / Higher self
Everything in Theta Healing rests upon the belief that there is a force greater than yourself involved. Whatever the term you use for this does not matter, and it is in no way religiously based. But you have to be able to see that there is a bigger picture, a reason for being, a force that animates you. You need to have an understanding that you have a piece of the puzzle but you can be guided to the highest good and the best outcome in any given situation by aligning yourself with this creative force.
There are numerous other elements that come into play the deeper you go into studying Theta Healing, but the list above gives you a nice snapshot of what’s entailed. Welcome to yourself as a magical being.
