Weening yourself off and crowding out with new rituals!
Caffeine addiction is both physical and mental, so to truly get off of it, there should be a two-pronged approach to address both sides.
What You'll Need
What You'll Do
- 1. To address the physical - start by scaling back your intake of coffee. If you're drinking two cups, spend the next 3-5 days getting very comfortable with just one cup (or from 1 cup to 1/2 cup, so on and so forth). You can instead fill the rest of the cup with some almond or coconut milk if you'd like!
- 2. Next, you'll want to make sure you're drinking it slowly and have ample amounts of water to keep hydrated the entire time you're enjoying it. Stay hydrated the whole day to help keep headaches at bay.
- 3. After 5 days of this, you'll want to attack the mental side now - people usually miss the morning ritual of coffee, the hot mug in their hand or the action of preparing/buying it. It's a habit we need to try and break but we need to address we are missing the ritual. So create a new one!
- For ideas on new rituals, this can be a smoothie or lovely herbal tea you add a spot of milk to or there are plenty of herbal coffee replacers out there, I also have some mushroom latte recipes you can check out on my blog. These will all give you similarities but it won't taste the same - and that's okay, keep an open mind, you are trying something new! After 3 weeks of testing out replacements, you should feel much better and the addiction should have subsided.
