Sometimes money is tight and we cannot afford to eat the most nutritious foods every day. However eating on a budget doesn’t necessarily mean we cannot have nutrient-dense meals. My strategy is to invest in ‘’staple” ingredients such as cinnamon, hemp seeds, herbs, etc...They can drastically increase the nutritional value of the most simple dishes. They may be on the pricey side if you buy them all at once but a little goes a looong way ! Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast grown from fungi that has a nutty / cheesy flavor and is packed with vitamin B. Sprinkle it on your pasta or popcorn for a cheesy finish or add it to your sauces to thicken them. . Hemp seeds come from the hemp plant. They are high in healthy fats and protein (more than chia seeds and flaxseeds actually). 2-3 tbsp provide 11 gr of protein, which is similar to what beef or lamb provide by weight ( +/- 30gr of protein/ 100gr ). They also have a nutty flavor and go well in pasta dishes, salads and porridge.
