Modern life involves working and living in very dry environments. Central heating and air conditioning both evaporate the moisture in the air, and in turn reduce the amount of moisture in our skin. Therefore to combat this inevitable drying of skin it is important to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluid (2.5-3 litres per day) which is non-caffeinated. Water is ideal.
