In Ayurveda, constipation is primarily seen as an imbalance of Vata dosha (air and Ether). What does this mean for the individual? People who have a tendency to have an excess of Vata manifest qualities of general dryness and instability, producing symptoms such as erratic digestion and constipation. One of the daily morning Ayurvedic recommendations which is particularly of value to Vata people is to gently apply sesame oil.

What You'll Need

  • Sesame Oil

What You'll Do

  • Massage the warmed oil into your abdomen, rubbing it in in a clockwise direction and also your lower back to relieve constipation.
  • Followed by a warm shower 10 to 15 minutes later.
  • Done on a daily basis in combination with a proper diet and exercise will help to encourage proper bowel movements in the long term.
