The more we understand about physical and mental health, the more we realise how linked they are. As our physical and mental health affect each other, things that are usually thought of as important for physical health are also important for our mental health and well-being. Diet is one of these. There is a lot of confusing and conflicting advice around what to eat but there are two things that I think are important. The first, eating more “real” unprocessed food, rather than processed food with lots of added sugar, salt, etc is well recognised. The second, isn’t so established, and that is around eating a variety of foods. Variety ensures a range of nutrients and hopefully adds to the interest and enjoyment of food. One way to help do this is to “eat the rainbow” and try to eat as many different coloured foods as you can. Or at least ensure there are different food colours in each meals. (Many meals are very beige or cream!!)

What You'll Need

  • It might help if you plan your meals / shopping list in advance.
  • Lots of fruits and vegetables will help, they can be fresh, tinned or frozen.
  • Some recipe inspiration from books, the internet, Pinterest or instagram.

What You'll Do

  • You can begin gradually, increasing different fruits or vegetables.
  • It’s easier to do if you plan meals in advance.
