Acupuncture is effective in treating insufficient milk supply in breastfeeding women. Points are selected to nourish fluids responsible for its production and encourage the dispersion of energy to allow uninhibited flow. The Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine reported a 100% success rate in treating women with insufficient milk supply after receiving twice weekly acupuncture treatments, as compared to 60% in those whom did not receive acupuncture. Follow up three months later revealed that the acupuncture group still reported double the success rate in continuation of breast feeding.
