There are many reasons why you could develop constipation - a lack of water, fibre, movement (exercise) tend to be the most common reasons, but it could also be the side effect from some medications or medical treatments. If you're not pooping at least 2 - 3 times per day (yes, PER DAY!) you're not eliminating toxins from your body fast enough, which can lead to all kinds of other detoxification issues.

What You'll Need

  • 1. Water. At least 2 litres per day. Drink a giant glass of warm water + juice from 1/2 a lemon after waking up. It helps rehydrate after sleep and 'wakes up' the intestines.
  • 2. Fibre. Half your plate at every meal (including breakfast) should be dark, green leafy veggies - spinach/ kale/ broccoli/ Swiss chard/ bokchoy. Or 1 Tbsp flax seeds mixed with 250ml glass of water to keep things moving in the intestinal tract.
  • 3. Movement. Exercise is what keeps things moving within the intestinal tract, so you want to help those peristaltic movements. 20-30 minutes of movement a day, as simple as brisk walk, take the stairs instead of the lift, get off the subway/ bus one step earlier and walk the rest of the way.
