When we feel anxious our breath often gets short and can make us feel lightheaded - which simply heightens the anxiety! My favourite breathing technique when this happens is to simply count a longer exhale than inhale to help balance the Carbon Dioxide levels in the body.

What You'll Need

What You'll Do

  • Count to three as you inhale
  • Pause for a split second
  • Count to four as you exhale
  • Pause for a split second
  • Repeat the breath practice ten times, elongating the exhale a little more each time

Tips & Warnings

  • Focus simply on the breath you are taking in that moment. Try not to worry about the breath before or the breath after. This will help you come back to the present moment rather than the anxiety itself.
