There are many kinds of stress, but let's face it they never feel that great at the time! Here is my go-to approach for moments of stress:

What You'll Need

  • Nothing required

What You'll Do

  • 1. Breathe deeply from the belly, through the nose. Breathe in for a count of 4 and out for a count of 6. By stimulating your bodies natural relaxation response you can stop the bodies stress response in its tracks.
  • 2. Now that you can think more clearly, ask yourself how much of this stress was out of your control and how much of it was your reaction? Accept the things you cannot change and focus on what you can.
  • 3. Learn. What can you do differently next time? When you use your stressful moments as opportunities to learn and grow, maybe one day they can even become your friends?

I find deep breathing to be an excellent way to stimulate a relaxation response and to 'step out' of the feeling of stress. I learned how to do this in an 8 week Mindfulness course - it takes a lot of practice but I can say that it really works!
