Predictive biomarker testing assesses a range of markers in blood, urine, saliva, hair and stool that have been shown in research to strongly correlate to health or the development of chronic conditions. Rather than waiting until it is 'too late' and the disease has already manifested, it aims to predict if you are en route to it, and as such allows time to redirect the course of your health through targeted nutrient and lifestyle changes.

What You'll Need

  • Predictive biomarker testing including low grade inflammation (HsCRP), long term blood sugar control (HbA1c), omega 3 index, free radical damage, vitamin D, ferritin and more.
  • Find an experienced Functional Medicine Practitioner that can put the results into the right reference ranges and create a targeted protocol to address and correct any inadequacies before running into trouble.

What You'll Do

  • Many of the tests are 'conventional' tests done by your GP, however Functional Medicine places them into much stricter ranges, distinguishing between 'out of range' (red), still in range but not optimal (yellow), and optimal (green). Much like the traffic light analogy, the yellow light is still ok to go, and as such doesn't usually get picked up upon, but there are already risks and the 'red light' may be close. It can take years to move from 'yellow' into the 'red' range, yet biochemical pathways in the body are already affected and blocked with wide ranging effects once there are many levels in yellow ranges.
  • Fine-tune which tests you do by looking at your genetic profile first, to see where your individual weaknesses lie, and then test to make sure you are on the right track.
  • If your markers show in the 'yellow' (not quite optimal) range, work with your trusted health care practitioner to correct the imbalance and get back to optimal.
