The second you feel a cold or flu coming on, break off a small stick of osha root (called bear medicine by native people), chew it just enough to soften it, and tuck it under your tongue. Keep it there. If a cold develops anyway, it can speed/lighten the process to grind up a bunch of osha root and put it on the stove in water, so that steam from the "osha tea" humidifies the room. Osha root got its name because bears rub it on themselves when they first come out of hibernation and also when they are sick, they eat it. The Osha Root is found in places like the Rocky Mountains and northern Mexico and especially in the southwestern US.
