Fiber certainly helps to reduce constipation but it can worsen other IBS symptoms like gas. My advice is experiment with the amount of fiber you introduce into your diet to see which is the right balance for you. Fiber can be found in foods - try having a bowl of high-fiber content cereal in the morning to start your day. If natural dietary fiber doesn't help you can also try out introducing various supplements, e.g. Metamucil or Citrucel, and see if they have an effect.
