Keep a diary with you and record in it when you notice a flare-up of your IBS symptoms. This way you can pinpoint any particular stressors that keep causing you to feel ill; for example, if your symptoms always occur right before you take a long car ride. When you have identified what caused you to feel worse you can set about dealing with this, whether by pro-actively taking medication or by practicing calming techniques.
